Sunday’s lineup got off to a strong start with the screening of International Shorts Program D. In attendance were filmmakers Cara Flores Mays and Lola Quan Bautista, Ph.D. Flores Mays is the producer of the powerful short, “We Are Pågat”, a ten minute documentary about the history of the U.S. military on Guam and plans related to the proposed military buildup.
Bautista’s film, “Breadfruit and Open Spaces”, is an immersive look into Pacific island families from Chuuk who attempt to grow roots on Guam and make it their home. The films played to a full house of GIFF audience members and both filmmakers shared the stage with an engaging Q&A session following the screenings.
